Medication and Gynecomastia

The link between medication and gynecomastia is well established...there are well over 100
drugs manufactured today that can have the unwanted side-effect of male breast enlargement and must, therefore,
be looked for as one of the gynecomastia causes in the modern world. Yes there were men in the world of the
Ancient Egyptians and Greeks who were known to have suffered from or written about gynecomastia, but they did
not actually have the kind of drugs to create a link between medication and gynecomastia.
In only 10% of the drugs referred to above is there a 3% or greater chance of gynecomastia
developing, so the link between medication and gynecomastia is not a widespread problem but nonetheless it is
disturbing to any man who contracts the condition. The groups that these drugs belong to are as follows:
- Anti-Androgens…used in cancer treatments and for prostate enlargement.
- Aids medications…if an HIV-positive individual is receiving HAART[highly active
anti-retroviral therapy], then he can develop gynecomastia.
- Some antibiotics.
- Tricyclic antidepressants.
- Anti-anxiety drugs such as ‘Diazepam’

The choices of treatments for gynecomastia are:
- Diet/Lifestyle…avoid alcohol excess as it is well established that there is a definite
association between heavy drinking and the process of feminisation or gynecomastia.
- Estrogen balancing medications, because it is an excess of estrogen over androgen that
causes gynecomastia.
- Surgery…surely a last resort due to the cost[$4,500 to $8,500]and also the somewhat
painful post-operation recovery phase.
- Removal of any drug, so breaking the link between medication and gynecomastia in the
first place[unless this action would threaten life or no other drug was available].
- Treating directly any disease such as a sex-steroid producing tumour or thyrotoxicosis.
This would have the secondary effect of a gynecomastia cure.
- Natural treatments…particularly those that combine a dietary/lifestyle/herbal/exercise
approach to correcting the hormonal imbalance. The approach with which I am most familiar is…

Gynecomastia causes are so many and so varied that even medical researchers find difficulty in
agreeing upon any one main factor. The principal area of research is currently hormone therapy.
Going back to natural approaches, one other that was brought to my attention here in the UK by
a delighted user, is the ‘Gynexin Alpha
Formula’ which has been successfully used by
gynecomastia sufferers in the USA, Canada, Australia and the UK. Click on the banner to read about it…
